On a tragic evening in Stafford, Virginia, the life of 33-year-old Calvin W. Whiting was cut short in a fatal encounter that authorities have described as the result of a domestic dispute. The incident, which unfolded on September 25, 2020, ended with Whiting suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Despite his severe injuries, he attempted to drive himself to the hospital.
His journey for help ended on Courthouse Road near Jennifer Lane, where he was found and then transported by emergency responders to Mary Washington Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a single suspect: Calvin's older brother, Wesley 'Ray' Whiting Jr., who was 39 years old at the time. Authorities reported that the altercation leading to the shooting occurred at a residence on Porter Hill Road. After the incident, Wesley Whiting Jr. fled the scene. However, his time as a fugitive was brief. The day after his brother's death, he turned himself in to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office at the Ford T. Humphrey Public Safety Building.
Following his surrender, Wesley 'Ray' Whiting Jr. was arrested and faced a series of serious charges. These included murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was subsequently held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
