In the quiet community of King and Queen Court House, Virginia, a domestic tragedy unfolded, claiming the life of 55-year-old Jo Ann D. Thompson. A White female, she was found on the back deck of her residence with a single gunshot wound.
The incident, which occurred on May 11, 2018, prompted a call to local authorities regarding a shooting. Upon their arrival at the home, deputies were met with a tense situation.
A brief standoff ensued with the victim's husband, 58-year-old Bernie Lee Thompson. He eventually surrendered to the police and was taken into custody.
Further investigation revealed the harrowing detail that a child was present inside the home at the time of the fatal shooting. Fortunately, the child was found unharmed. Bernie Lee Thompson was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges, including second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was held without bond at the Middle Peninsula Regional Security Center.
