On a summer afternoon in Norfolk, Virginia, tragedy struck the family of Sanjuan Shy. The 40-year-old Black man was found suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound on Bolton Street on July 20, 2018. Emergency services were called to the 1300 block of the street shortly before 2:00 p.m. where they discovered Shy, a resident of nearby Chesapeake. He was quickly transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe, and he died there.
