In the early hours of September 16, 2018, the life of 18-year-old Keshawn Lamont Dickerson was tragically cut short in Lynchburg, Virginia. Just after midnight, gunshots echoed in the 2000 block of Third Street, prompting multiple 911 calls reporting a malicious wounding. When police arrived, they found Dickerson suffering from gunshot injuries. He was quickly transported to Lynchburg General Hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his wounds and died there.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of a 15-year-old, Quisaan Johnson. According to court documents, both Johnson and Dickerson were at a party at a residence on 3rd Street. It was alleged that Johnson went to the back of the house with the intent to rob two individuals. During this alleged robbery attempt, Johnson was accused of firing a handgun at two people in the driveway, and it was at this point that Dickerson was shot and killed.
Despite his age, Quisaan Johnson was charged as an adult with the murder of Keshawn Dickerson. His trial commenced in Lynchburg Circuit Court, with jury selection beginning for what was expected to be a two-day proceeding. However, the case took an unexpected turn. At the conclusion of the prosecution's evidence, Johnson's attorney made a motion to strike, arguing that there was insufficient evidence to proceed. The judge agreed with the defense, stating that there was not enough evidence to prove that Johnson had possessed or fired a firearm. Consequently, the charges against Quisaan Johnson were dismissed, and the case against him was closed.
