On a grim Thursday morning, December 20, 2018, the body of Antonio R. Chalkley, a 33-year-old Black male, was discovered in an alley in the 2700 block of Hull Street in Richmond, Virginia. A city code inspector made the discovery at approximately 10:14 a.m. An investigation by the Richmond Police Department determined that Chalkley had been shot multiple times.
The Medical Examiner would later confirm he sustained five gunshot wounds.
The subsequent investigation into Chalkley's death led detectives to an apartment near the alley where his body was found. This apartment was rented by Maurice Addison, and it was determined that Chalkley had been staying with him. Evidence suggested that a confrontation between the two men escalated, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting.
Maurice Addison was identified as the suspect in Antonio Chalkley's murder and was subsequently arrested and charged. The case proceeded through the legal system, culminating in a trial where Addison was found guilty of the charges brought against him. In 2021, the Virginia Court of Appeals reviewed and upheld his conviction.
