On a crisp autumn evening in Petersburg, Virginia, the life of a beloved teenager was tragically cut short. De’shone Taylor-Brown, a 17-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on November 7, 2019. Known affectionately as "Kash," De'shone was a student at Petersburg High School, where he was known for his infectious smile and beautiful spirit. He was a young man who enjoyed telling jokes, attending school, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
De'shone was born in
Petersburg on January 10, 2002. He was a devoted son, brother, and friend. Those who knew him remember his love for the New Orleans Saints and the special bond he shared with his father, whom he called "pops." His passing left a deep void in the hearts of his extensive family, including his parents, ten brothers, and four sisters, as well as a wide circle of relatives and friends who cherished him.
In the wake of the shooting, the Petersburg Police Department initiated an investigation into the homicide. However, despite the passage of time, there has been no publicly available information regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the death of De’shone Taylor-Brown. The circumstances surrounding his murder remain unresolved, and the case has not been officially closed.
The community was left mourning the loss of a young life full of potential. A funeral service was held for De'shone on November 16, 2019, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Petersburg, where family and friends gathered to pay their final respects. He was laid to rest at Wilkerson Memorial Cemetery. To this day, the case remains an open wound for his loved ones, who continue to seek answers and justice for his untimely death.
