In the quiet early hours of a May morning in Gloucester Point, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Hezekiah Fauntleroy Jr. was tragically cut short. On May 15, 2020, deputies from the Gloucester Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the Colonial Point Apartments on Colonial Point Lane around 1 a.m. following reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, they discovered Fauntleroy, a resident of White Stone, lying unconscious in the parking lot.
He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and sadly, responding medics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The investigation that followed swiftly uncovered a fatal plot born from a scheme to commit robbery under the guise of a marijuana sale. Authorities identified three individuals from Hampton who were allegedly involved in the premeditated crime. Two days after the shooting, on May 17, 16-year-old Ameir Antonio Wynn surrendered to the Hampton Police Department. Following Wynn's arrest, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office continued to search for a second suspect, 23-year-old Destin Domonique Moore. A third individual, 18-year-old Jennifer Anne Zuckerman, was arrested on July 22 of the same year.
Court proceedings revealed the chilling details of the plan that led to Fauntleroy's death. Jennifer Zuckerman had driven Ameir Wynn, Destin Moore, and another individual to the apartment complex with the intention of robbing Fauntleroy. After arranging to meet, Fauntleroy entered their vehicle to conduct the supposed drug transaction. It was then that Wynn and Moore, along with the third male accomplice, brandished firearms and demanded his money. When Fauntleroy resisted, pushing Moore's gun away and attempting to return to his own vehicle, Wynn opened fire, shooting him multiple times at close range. The group then fled the scene in their vehicle.
The wheels of justice turned for those responsible for the young man's murder. Ameir Antonio Wynn and Destin Domonique Moore were both convicted for their roles in the crime. Wynn was sentenced to serve 25 years in prison. Moore pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and received a 22-year prison sentence. Jennifer Anne Zuckerman was charged with first-degree murder as a principal in the second degree, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony as a principal in the second degree, and attempted robbery for her involvement in the events that led to Hezekiah Fauntleroy Jr.'s untimely death.
