In a tragic event that unfolded in Martinsville, Virginia, 90-year-old Lois Irene Cassell was found deceased in her home on Venna Avenue on the evening of May 28, 2020. Her death, caused by a gunshot wound, was later ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke.
Deputies from the Henry County Sheriff's Office discovered her body, along with two others, after being called to the residence for a well-being check at 7:47 p.m.
Upon arrival, they were unable to make contact with anyone inside the home. At the request of family members, deputies made entry and found the three deceased individuals.
The other victims were identified as 64-year-old Linda Cassell, whose death was also ruled a homicide from a gunshot wound, and 57-year-old Larry John Cassell. The investigation by the Henry County Sheriff's Office and the medical examiner's office concluded that the incident was a double murder-suicide. Larry John Cassell's death was ruled a suicide, also from a gunshot wound. Evidence found at the scene supported the conclusion that Larry Cassell was the perpetrator in the deaths of Lois and Linda Cassell before taking his own life.
