In the late evening of August 12, 2025, in Martinsville, Virginia, a large disturbance erupted in the 500 block of Forest Street, forever altering the lives of many. Amidst the chaos, 39-year-old Crystal Galloway Jordan was shot. She was quickly transported to Sovah-Martinsville Hospital but ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Another individual, a 20-year-old man from Danville, also arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds related to the same incident and was reported to be in serious
condition.
The investigation into the tragic event revealed a complex series of events that led to the fatal shooting. Authorities determined that a large group of people had gone to Forest Street with the intention of confronting and assaulting a smaller group of residents. This confrontation stemmed from an earlier altercation that had taken place in the parking lot of Monogram Snacks. Investigators believe the initial argument sparked the larger, more violent gathering later that night. During this larger fight, firearms were brandished and discharged, leading to Crystal Jordan's death. It is believed by law enforcement that Jordan may have been attempting to de-escalate the situation when she was shot.
In the weeks and months that followed, the Martinsville Police Department, with assistance from the Henry County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police, conducted numerous interviews and gathered evidence that led to a series of arrests. Initially, eleven individuals, nine from Danville and two from Henry County, were arrested and charged with malicious wounding by mob.
Further investigation and interviews with those already in custody led to the identification of three men as the individuals who allegedly fired their weapons during the altercation. These three men, Nan Lee Corbett, Micah Aaron Holmes, and Quayam Haristen, were subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Crystal Galloway Jordan's death. According to criminal complaints, Holmes is accused of shooting Jordan in the shoulder, causing her to fall. It is then alleged that Corbett shot her multiple times while she was on the ground, and Haristston also shot her. The investigation has been described as ongoing, with the possibility of more arrests.
