On a summer night in Woodbridge, Virginia, a young life was tragically cut short. Micah Antonio Mutz, a 19-year-old male, was shot and killed on July 14, 2020. The events unfolded late in the evening when Prince William County police responded to a call of shots fired near the intersection of Valleywood Drive and Colebrook Lane at approximately 10:15 p.m.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Mutz nearby on Oakwood Drive, suffering from a gunshot wound. They immediately rendered aid, using trauma kits and performing CPR until rescue personnel arrived. Mutz was then transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The police investigation soon revealed that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
As the investigation progressed, a second individual, 23-year-old Carlos Ernesto Perez Trujillo of Woodbridge, arrived at an area hospital with his own gunshot injuries. Authorities determined that Perez Trujillo and Mutz were acquainted and had engaged in a verbal altercation that tragically escalated into gunfire. During the encounter, both men were shot.
A month after the fatal shooting, on August 14, 2020, detectives from the Prince William County Police Department's Homicide Unit arrested Carlos Ernesto Perez Trujillo. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Micah Antonio Mutz's death. Following his arrest, Perez Trujillo was held without bond.
