On August 19, 2020, Sincere DeGroat, a 21-year-old from Wilson, North Carolina, was fatally shot in the parking lot of a McDonald's near the Berglund Center in Roanoke, Virginia. According to court documents, the incident occurred following an argument between DeGroat and 18-year-old Arieon Roane. The two men reportedly met at the McDonald's, where the confrontation escalated, leading to both individuals shooting each other.
