In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Henrico, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Daequon Darren Glover was tragically cut short. On September 15, 2020, officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 2 a.m. in a neighborhood off Hungary Springs Road. Upon their arrival at the 5700 block of Virginia Pine Court, they discovered Glover suffering from gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into the shooting moved swiftly, and Henrico County detectives soon identified a suspect. Elijah U. Samuels, a 26-year-old resident of Henrico, was arrested in connection with Glover's death. Samuels was subsequently charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. News of the arrest provided a small measure of solace to a grieving family and community, who had gathered for a candlelight vigil to honor Daequon's memory. During the vigil, his family spoke of his desire for peace and unity, urging those in attendance not to seek revenge.
Known affectionately as 'DJ' to his friends and family, Daequon was remembered as a devoted father to his young son, a loving son, and a protective brother and uncle. A 2015 graduate of Highland Springs High School, he was known for his athleticism, particularly his prowess on the recreational football field. In a testament to his character, in 2017, he was hailed as a local hero for his selfless act of kicking in the door of a burning home to rescue a neighbor. His untimely death left a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, a charismatic young man who enjoyed telling jokes, working on cars, and spending time with his loved ones.
