In the early morning hours of November 11, 2020, the life of 18-year-old Talik Jahleel Farmer, a Black male from Portsmouth, Virginia, was tragically cut short. At approximately 1:00 a.m., emergency services received a report of a single-vehicle accident in the 2700 block of Turnpike Road. Upon their arrival, they discovered Farmer inside his vehicle, not just a victim of a crash, but of a violent act.
Talik had sustained a gunshot wound to his torso.
Investigators believe he was driving when an unknown individual shot him, causing him to lose control of his car and collide with a utility pole. Despite the immediate efforts of first responders to render aid, Farmer succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:04 a.m.
The Portsmouth Police Department's Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation into the homicide. A significant lead emerged on November 15, 2020, when a stolen red Hyundai Santa Fe, thought to be connected to the shooting, was recovered in the 100 block of Chautauqua Avenue. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the discovery of the vehicle, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Talik Jahleel Farmer. Police have not publicly identified any suspects. The case remains an open and active investigation, leaving a family and community searching for answers and justice for a young life taken too soon.
