evening, Shifflett handled a firearm. In what was later described in legal documents as a careless and reckless act, he pointed the weapon in Sara's direction. A single shot was fired, inflicting a mortal wound. Sara Hammond, a young woman with a future full of promise, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her death was quickly ruled a homicide, sending shockwaves through the quiet community.
The investigation into Sara's death led to the arrest of Brandon Wade Shifflett. The legal process that followed delved into the events of that tragic night. Shifflett was charged in connection with the shooting. In a turn of events in the legal proceedings, on October 25, 2021, Brandon Wade Shifflett pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder.
