Kristin, an English and Drama teacher, had been entangled in a volatile relationship with her husband, Kevin Dale Palmer.
For at least six years, their home was marred by abuse, prompting Kristin to seek protection for herself and her 17-year-old son, Griffin. Just days before the fatal incident, both Kristin and Griffin had filed domestic abuse complaints against Kevin Palmer. This led to his arrest on two counts of assault and battery; however, he was released on a $2,500 bond. In the early morning hours of that fateful February day, Kevin Palmer forcibly entered the home of Kristin's parents, Terry and Nancy Griffin, where Kristin and her son had taken refuge. Armed with two firearms, he unleashed a wave of violence, shooting his wife, his son, and his mother-in-law, Nancy Griffin, before taking his own life. Kristin's father, Terry, was also shot but managed to escape and summon help. While Nancy and Kevin were pronounced dead at the scene, Griffin tragically died on the way to the hospital, and Kristin succumbed to her injuries at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
