In the early morning hours of February 6, 2021, tragedy struck in Suffolk, Virginia, ending the life of 25-year-old Diamonta Christopher Price. The young man, a resident of East Washington Street, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 600 block of the same street shortly after midnight. Emergency services were quick to respond, and Price was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Price, who was born on March 9, 1995, was a father to two daughters, Taharri and Legaci Price, and two sons, Samare Grant-Price and Levi Grant. He had attended Kings Fork High School and was employed as a packer at Planter's. His death left a void in the lives of his parents, Debbie Kelly and Edwin Price, as well as his two sisters and extended family.
In the wake of the shooting, the Suffolk Police Department launched an investigation that quickly identified a person of interest. This individual, 25-year-old Keishon Aljamonte Robinson, was later named as the primary suspect. On February 27, 2021, Robinson was apprehended in Southampton County through a collaborative effort involving the City of Suffolk Police, the City of Franklin Police, the Southampton County Sheriff's Office, and the Virginia State Police.
Following his arrest, Robinson was transported to the Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where he was held without bond. He faced a series of serious charges in connection with Price's death, including first-degree murder, use or display of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and malicious shooting into an occupied building. Additionally, Robinson was charged with being a violent felon in possession of a firearm, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place. It was also revealed that at the time of the fatal shooting, Robinson was already wanted on several felony charges stemming from two separate shooting incidents that occurred on East Washington Street the previous summer, though no one was injured in those events.
