In the quiet town of Onancock, Virginia, the life of 49-year-old Brian Lee Daley, a talented cabinet maker, came to a violent and tragic end on the night of March 7, 2021. Responding to reports of gunshots in the vicinity of Jackson Street, Accomack County Sheriff's deputies discovered a white Chevrolet pickup truck that had crashed. Inside, they found Mr. Daley, a male resident of Onancock, unresponsive in the driver's seat.
He had sustained both stab wounds and gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger side windows of his truck were shattered, bearing silent witness to the violence that had unfolded.
The investigation into the homicide quickly led authorities to two individuals, 30-year-old Brandon Jamar Beach and his girlfriend, Antoinette Waneta Satchell. The couple had devised a plan to rob Daley, with Satchell luring him to their residence on Jackson Street. What was supposed to be a robbery escalated into a brutal murder. Beach, armed with two knives, began stabbing Daley. As Daley fled the house and attempted to escape in his truck, Beach shot at him, causing the fatal crash. The pair then gathered Daley's belongings, including his clothes, cellphone, and wallet, placed them in a trash bag, and discarded them on a road near Wachapreague.
A short time after the murder, Beach and Satchell were located and arrested in the parking lot of a motel in the nearby town of Onley. Inside their vehicle, investigators discovered incriminating evidence, including credit cards belonging to Brian Lee Daley, a 9mm pistol, and a bloody knife. Beach, who had blood on his hands at the time of his arrest, initially gave conflicting stories to the police but eventually admitted to his role in the crime. He revealed that Satchell had instigated the robbery to obtain money for an upcoming court case involving her children.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, both Brandon Jamar Beach and Antoinette Waneta Satchell faced justice for their roles in the murder of Brian Lee Daley. Satchell, who was found to have a history of mental health issues, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and robbery. She was sentenced to serve 50 years in prison. Brandon Jamar Beach pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, robbery, credit card theft, and maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle. In April 2024, a judge sentenced him to 58 years in prison, bringing a close to a case that had deeply affected the small community of Onancock.
