In the quiet community of Onancock, Virginia, the evening of February 13, 2024, was shattered by the sound of gunfire on Stumpy Lane. When deputies from the Accomack County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene shortly after 8:30 p.m., they discovered 26-year-old Rashaun Anthony Brown suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was later taken to the Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office, where his death was officially ruled a homicide.
For over a year, the investigation into Brown's murder continued, culminating in a series of arrests in March 2025. A multi-jurisdictional grand jury handed down indictments on February 28, 2025, and on March 18, four men were taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. The suspects were identified as 32-year-old Tyvon Lyncurtis Smith of Virginia Beach, 32-year-old Christopher Clovis-Weathers Monfiston of Chesapeake, 27-year-old Kyriq Nygee Weathers of Parksley, and 26-year-old Taquan Lee Bell of Accomac.
Each of the four men faces serious charges. Smith, Monfiston, and Weathers were all charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bell was charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, accessory after the fact, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Following their arrests, all four men were held without bail. Smith, Weathers, and Bell were booked into the Accomack County Jail, while Monfiston was incarcerated at the Virginia Beach City Jail. One of the suspects, Tyvon Smith, was noted as a self-proclaimed leader of the Bloods street gang with a lengthy criminal history.
