In the early morning hours of June 27, 2021, the vibrant nightlife of Richmond's Shockoe Bottom neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. Kendall Jamal Forbey, a 28-year-old Black male, was found unresponsive in the roadway in the 200 block of North 20th Street at approximately 2:24 a.m. by police officers who were in the area and heard the shots. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
