In the summer of 2021, the life of Melike Herbert Benjamin, a 49-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire. On the evening of July 7th, Benjamin was at a Quik Express gas station on South 15th Avenue in Hopewell, Virginia, when he was fatally shot. Hopewell Police responded to the scene to find Benjamin suffering from gunshot wounds near a gas pump; sadly, he was pronounced dead at the location.
