On the evening of August 9, 2014, in the 500 block of Nottingham Court in Hopewell, Virginia, tragedy struck the community. Calvin Alfonzo Brothers, a 29-year-old Black man, was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The call reporting shots fired came in at approximately 9:53 p.m. Emergency services arrived at the scene and transported Brothers to John Randolph Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
