In the autumn of 2021, the life of 40-year-old Steve Gunter, a male resident of Danville, Virginia, was tragically cut short in an act of violence that has yet to see a final resolution. On the evening of October 28th, the Danville Police Department received calls reporting shots fired in the 400 block of Bradley Road. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered Gunter in the street, suffering from what appeared to be a fatal gunshot wound.
First responders pronounced him deceased at the scene, marking the beginning of a homicide investigation.
The investigation swiftly led to the identification of a suspect. The day after the shooting, police announced they had obtained a warrant for the arrest of 43-year-old Jerome Jermaine Davis Jr., charging him with second-degree murder in connection with Gunter's death. Reports from as recent as the late summer of 2025 indicated that the murder warrant for Jerome Jermaine Davis Jr. was still active.
