On November 9, 2021, a 27-year-old Black or African American mother of six, Ariel McLaurin, was tragically killed in her home in Portsmouth, Virginia. The incident occurred around 5:34 PM in the 2100 block of Pearl Street. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found McLaurin with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene before she could be taken to a hospital.
