On October 12, 2016, Demetrius Griffin Jr., a 15-year-old high school student, was found dead in a garbage can in Chicago's Austin neighborhood. His body was severely burned, and an autopsy revealed that he had been alive when the fire was started. The incident occurred after Demetrius did not return home on time, leading his family to fear the worst. Authorities ruled the death a homicide but have been unable to identify any suspects.
