In the late morning of a Friday in Roanoke, Virginia, the life of 40-year-old Grover Wade Edwards, III, was tragically cut short. On June 3, 2022, at approximately 11:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the 3800 block of Williamson Road NW, near the local library, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Mr. Edwards with critical injuries from which he would not recover.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect who was detained near
the scene of the incident. That individual was identified as 29-year-old Keandra Smith of Roanoke. Following an interview with detectives, Smith was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Grover Edwards. Authorities have indicated that the incident appeared to be isolated between the two individuals involved and that there was no ongoing threat to the community.
Grover Wade Edwards, III, was born in Roanoke on May 22, 1982. His passing is mourned by his parents, daughter, fiancé, siblings, and other family members. In accordance with his wishes, no formal services were held. The case against Keandra Smith remains an active investigation.
