In the summer of 2022, a tragic event unfolded in Portsmouth, Virginia, claiming the life of 37-year-old Oleisha Deanna Mears and three others. On the morning of June 7th, gunshots shattered the quiet of a home on Maple Avenue. When police arrived, they discovered a grim scene. Mears, along with 30-year-old Georgio Davonta Lee and 34-year-old Ashley Merricks, were found deceased inside the residence. A fourth victim, 66-year-old Samuel Jones, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and later succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation into the quadruple homicide led authorities to identify two brothers as suspects: Raymond Gore and Antwann Gore. In August 2022, Raymond Gore was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with four counts of aggravated murder, four counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and four counts of shooting in the commission of a felony. His brother, Antwann Gore, faced the same charges, though he remained at large. The motive behind the violent attack was not disclosed by law enforcement officials.
The legal proceedings against Raymond Gore culminated in a jury trial in January 2024. During the trial, the prosecution presented an eyewitness who testified to seeing Gore at the scene of the crime. However, the defense attorneys challenged the credibility of the witness, pointing out inconsistencies in their testimony and suggesting they may have testified out of self-interest. After deliberating for less than an hour, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on all charges against Raymond Gore. His relative, Antwann Gore, still faces indictments in connection with the quadruple murder.
