In the summer of 2022, on the first of July, the life of 29-year-old Karlton Antonio Arline, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Suffolk, Virginia. Known affectionately as "Chuckie" to his loved ones, Arline was found with gunshot wounds in the 600 block of First Avenue after Suffolk Police responded to a call about a shooting at approximately 10:50 p.m.
Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Arline's death remained ongoing for a considerable time, leaving his family and the community awaiting answers. The Suffolk Police Department actively investigated the case, but for a period, no suspects were publicly identified, and details about the motive behind the shooting were not released. The lack of closure was a source of continued grief for those who knew Arline, who was remembered for a smile that could light up a room and a deep love for his family. He was a father to two daughters and a son, with another child on the way, and was engaged to be married.
A significant development in the case came in July 2025, when the Suffolk Police Department publicly identified a suspect. William Jeffrey Holland, 32, also of Suffolk, was wanted in connection with Arline's death. Authorities announced that they had secured multiple charges against Holland, including voluntary manslaughter, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The police have asked for the public's assistance in locating Holland and have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
