In the quiet area of Woodlawn, Virginia, the life of 30-year-old Laura Caroline “Carrie” Buffkin was tragically cut short on July 27, 2022. Emergency services were dispatched to a residence on Fairlawn Lane around 11:30 a.m. following a report of an unresponsive woman. Upon their arrival, they discovered Carrie Buffkin deceased at the scene, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The Carroll County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into her death, which quickly led them
to identify a person of interest. Kevin Lee Sizemore, a 42-year-old from Hillsville, became the focus of the inquiry. Investigators located Sizemore and found him to be in possession of a concealed handgun.
Following the investigation, Kevin Lee Sizemore was arrested and faced a series of charges, including second-degree murder. The charges against him also included the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a firearm while under a protective order, and felony larceny of a firearm. Sizemore was taken before a magistrate and is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail pending arraignment. The investigation into the death of Carrie Buffkin is ongoing.
