In the early morning hours of September 3, 2022, Brandon L. Robertson, a 29-year-old man known in the Richmond community as DJ Beezy, was found deceased in his vehicle. The car was located on Old Courthouse Road in Chesterfield, outside his parents' home. An investigation revealed he had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Just hours before his death, Robertson had been at an after-hours club in Richmond.
While there, he was involved in a physical altercation with a man named Anthony Phillip Spencer. The dispute reportedly began after Spencer made a flirtatious comment to the mother of Robertson's child. Later that morning, between 4:20 and 4:30 a.m., three gunshots were fired in the parking lot of Robertson's apartment complex.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed toward the earlier altercation. On September 7, 2022, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, police arrested 31-year-old Anthony P. Spencer. He was taken into custody and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Spencer was held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail.
Following his arrest, Spencer faced legal proceedings for his role in Robertson's death. He was ultimately convicted by a jury for first-degree murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and using a firearm in the commission of a felony. The case against him included testimony from a witness who saw the fight outside the club and another individual who was housed with Spencer in jail and claimed Spencer admitted to the murder.
