In the late hours of a cold January night in Atlantic City, the life of 26-year-old Uthman Griffin was tragically cut short. On January 13, 2012, police responded to reports of a shooting near Browns Park, just outside the School House Apartments on Arctic Avenue. Upon their arrival around 11:30 p.m., they discovered Griffin with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite the immediate medical attention he received, his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that Griffin had been running from his assailant when he was shot. The motive for this violent act remains unclear, and as of today, no arrests have been made in connection with his murder. The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office has made public appeals for anyone with information to come forward, yet the case remains unsolved. The Black / African American male was a father and had another child on the way at the time of his death.
The weight of Uthman's unsolved murder has been heavily felt by his family, particularly his brother, Muhammad Griffin. Incarcerated at the time of the shooting, Muhammad has channeled his grief into his music, dedicating a song to his younger brother to honor his memory. The family and community continue to hold out hope that justice will one day be served for Uthman Griffin as investigators continue to seek leads in this cold case.
