On a Friday night in Atlantic City, the sound of gunfire shattered the late-evening peace in the area of Baltic and Maryland Avenues. When police, alerted by the ShotSpotter system and 911 calls, arrived at the scene just after 11 p.m. on May 14, 2021, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, 34-year-old Jacque Sheppard, Jr. of Pleasantville, was rushed to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus.
Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The investigation into the male's death was launched by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit. In the weeks following the shooting, authorities reached out to the public for assistance. Detectives released photographs of two men who were identified as persons of interest in the ongoing homicide investigation.
In addition to the images of the two individuals, law enforcement also circulated a picture of a vehicle they believed was connected to the fatal shooting. The vehicle was described as a white Honda Odyssey minivan that was missing a front license plate. As of the latest available information, the investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring resolution to the case.
