On a Friday night in Atlantic City, the sound of gunfire shattered the late-evening peace in the area of Baltic and Maryland Avenues. When police, alerted by the ShotSpotter system and 911 calls, arrived at the scene just after 11 p.m. on May 14, 2021, they found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, 34-year-old Jacque Sheppard, Jr. of Pleasantville, was rushed to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
