On the night of September 8, 2012, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on Garside Street in Newark, New Jersey. Responding to reports of shots fired at approximately 10:25 p.m., police officers arrived to find a young man suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was identified as 17-year-old Juan Cabrera, a resident of Newark. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be too severe.
