In the late hours of January 2, 2014, what began as just another evening in the Whitman Park neighborhood of Camden, New Jersey, was irrevocably shattered by the sound of gunfire. Responding to an alert from the city's ShotSpotter system at approximately 10:50 p.m., Camden County Metro Police officers arrived at the 1600 block of Louis Street to a grim discovery. There, they found 39-year-old Tristan Fulton, a male resident of the city, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the prompt response, Fulton was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city's first homicide of the new year.
The investigation into Fulton's murder was immediately launched by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department. In the days that followed, detectives worked to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting. Their efforts soon yielded a person of interest, a man captured on surveillance video who was seen walking with three other men moments before the shooting, and then alone shortly after.
