In an Egg Harbor Township home, concern grew as mail began to pile up for days outside the residence of 58-year-old Andrew Breznitsky, a male resident. This unsettling observation prompted neighbors to contact the police. On a Saturday afternoon in May 2014, officers entered the home on the 200 block of London Court to conduct a welfare check, where they made a grim discovery.
Inside, they found the bodies of Andrew Breznitsky and his 58-year-old roommate, Del McKenzie.
Both men were deceased, having suffered from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigators at the scene recovered a small caliber semi-automatic handgun, signaling a violent end to the two men's lives. The initial discovery left authorities with the task of unraveling the sequence of events that led to this tragic outcome.
Following the discovery, autopsies were performed by the New Jersey State Medical Examiner's Office. The results of the autopsies confirmed that both men died from fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. It was determined that Del McKenzie shot Andrew Breznitsky twice in the head before turning the weapon on himself, firing two shots into his own chest. With this conclusion, the investigation into the deaths was closed, as the perpetrator was also deceased.
