In the early morning hours of August 19, 2022, 31-year-old Charles Wynn was fatally shot in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey. The incident occurred at approximately 4:08 a.m. in the parking lot of a warehouse on Delilah Road where Wynn was employed. An autopsy later confirmed that Wynn died from multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
At the time of his death, Wynn had been out of prison for only three months, having served a sentence for his role in a 2015 killing in an Atlantic City motel.
Surveillance footage from the warehouse captured crucial details of the event. It showed a dark-colored sedan arriving on a dirt road near the parking lot shortly before the shooting. Wynn was seen leaving the warehouse for a scheduled break around 4:00 a.m. and was sitting alone in his vehicle with the door ajar. Minutes later, a man, identified as Isaiah Toulson, was seen running from a wooded area toward Wynn's vehicle. He opened the car door and shot Wynn multiple times before fleeing the scene on an electric bicycle.
The investigation into Charles Wynn's murder led authorities to 38-year-old Isaiah Toulson of Mays Landing. Evidence collected from the scene included a fingerprint Toulson left on the window of Wynn's vehicle. Further investigation of Toulson's phone revealed that he had entered Wynn's work schedule, noting his regular break times. A text message was also discovered on his phone from an unidentified individual that read, 'Just hit him.'
Following a four-month investigation, Isaiah Toulson was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and weapons offenses in December 2022. After the charges were filed, Toulson became a fugitive. He was eventually captured and arrested in June 2023, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Service, and taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.
