On a tragic evening in Jersey City, New Jersey, 22-year-old Jamal Cooks, a male resident of the city, lost his life in a violent encounter. On June 9, 2014, Cooks was inside a vehicle on Van Nostrand Avenue with his 21-year-old friend, Shawn Spencer, when they were both fatally shot. Cooks was struck in the torso, while Spencer sustained wounds to his head and shoulder. Both men were rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead the following morning.
