On a late Sunday evening in Jersey City, a burst of violence shattered the night's quiet, leaving a 34-year-old man, Dushawn Bell, fatally wounded. The male victim, a resident of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was discovered on Fairview Avenue, situated between John F. Kennedy Boulevard and West Side Avenue, with apparent gunshot wounds. The incident, which unfolded shortly after 11:20 p.m.
on December 8, 2024, prompted an immediate response from the Jersey City Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers found Bell in critical condition. He was quickly transported to Jersey City Medical Center for emergency medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Dushawn Bell succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2024. In a significant development, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, the U.S. Marshals Service Florida Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 26-year-old Zafarri Francis in Ocala, Florida.
Francis, a resident of Jersey City, was charged with murder, as well as weapons offenses and receiving stolen property, in connection with Dushawn Bell's death. Following his apprehension in Florida, Francis was held at the Marion County Jail as he awaited extradition back to New Jersey to face the charges against him.
