On a Sunday afternoon in Jersey City, on January 23, 2022, Rasheen Louis Jordan Bostick, a 32-year-old male, was fatally shot. The incident occurred around 12:28 p.m. in the vicinity of 32 Belmont Avenue. When Jersey City Police Department officers arrived at the scene, they found Mr. Bostick with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was quickly transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center.
Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:55 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting led to the identification of a suspect, Nysheed Gleaton, a 24-year-old resident of Bayonne. In the early morning hours of a day in late February 2022, Gleaton was arrested by the Wallington Police Department, at which time he was found to be in possession of a handgun. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office subsequently charged him with murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
On July 27, 2022, Nysheed Gleaton pleaded guilty to an amended charge of first-degree aggravated manslaughter for his role in the death of Rasheen Bostick. Following his guilty plea, on February 17, 2023, a Hudson County Superior Court Judge sentenced Gleaton to 22 years in New Jersey State Prison. The sentence is subject to the No Early Release Act, which requires that he serve a significant portion of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
