In the afternoon hours of a Tuesday in Newark, New Jersey, a life was cut tragically short. Coulibabry Zoumana Wilson, a 15-year-old male student at Weequahic High School, was in the 100 block of Leslie Street on June 10, 2014, when a disturbance erupted. During the incident, he was shot. Authorities were called to the scene around 3:30 p.m. and found the teenager with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved too severe.
He was pronounced dead at 3:52 p.m.
The investigation into the shooting was swiftly undertaken by the Essex County Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. Early on, investigators stated that the shooting did not appear to be a random act of violence, but rather a targeted attack. Following the arrest, the teenager was remanded to the Essex County Youth Detention Facility to await an appearance in the Family Division of the Superior Court.
