On the evening of October 14, 2014, Alonza Gordon, a 39-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The incident occurred at approximately 10:10 p.m. as Gordon was sitting on the front steps of a building on Third Street. An unidentified assailant approached him and shot him at close range with a handgun. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Gordon was quickly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into Alonza Gordon's death revealed that it was one of two fatal shootings that took place in Elizabeth on the same night, occurring within a 30-minute timeframe. The second victim was identified as 20-year-old Allens Exilus of Roselle, who was shot near the intersection of Cherry and West Jersey streets. However, authorities investigated both incidents and determined that the two homicides were not connected.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Alonza Gordon. The motive for the shooting remains unclear, and the case continues to be under investigation. The lack of suspects has left his family and the community awaiting answers and seeking justice for his death.
