In the early morning hours of May 29, 2022, tragedy struck on the streets of Elizabeth, New Jersey, when a young Black/African American man's life was cut short by gunfire. Lamar Turner, a 24-year-old resident of West Orange, was found on the 200 block of North Broad Street with a fatal gunshot wound. The incident unfolded around 3 a.m. as Elizabeth Police Department patrol units responded to reports of shots fired in the area.
