In the early morning hours of October 17, 2014, the life of 29-year-old Cassan Powell, a Black/African American male from Irvington, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. Powell was in the 700 block of Springfield Avenue in Newark when gunfire erupted at approximately 1:30 a.m. He was fatally shot in the incident, which also left two other individuals wounded, though they survived their injuries.
