In the winter of 2015, a young Black man named Alikhan Garland, a 22-year-old resident of Newark, New Jersey, was fatally wounded in a shooting. The incident occurred on the morning of January 23rd, at approximately 9:19 a.m., in the 100 block of 19th Avenue in the neighboring town of Irvington.
Following the shooting, Garland was quickly transported to University Hospital in Newark for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries four days later, on January 27, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. The cause of his death was the gunshot wounds he sustained in the attack.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Irvington Police Department, launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. However, as of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with Alikhan Garland's death. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. The investigation remains active and ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public to bring resolution to the case.
