On the evening of Thursday, January 19, 2023, the sound of gunfire broke the quiet on the 400 block of Union Avenue in Irvington, New Jersey. Residents called 911 at approximately 7:33 p.m. to report hearing multiple shots. The man who was killed was Ibn Vincent, a 37-year-old Black male.
Irvington Township police officers responded quickly to the scene. After securing the area, they discovered Mr. Vincent behind one of the buildings, suffering from severe injuries. He had been shot multiple times. According to investigators at the scene, it appeared that his assailants had chased him a short distance into an alley before opening fire. Emergency services were unable to save him, and Mr.
Vincent was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after he was found.
The investigation was immediately launched by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in cooperation with Irvington Township detectives. No other injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities are searching for the suspects responsible for the homicide. As of the initial investigation, the case remains active and unsolved.
