In the early morning hours of January 25, 2015, the life of 22-year-old Leonard 'CJ' Moody was tragically cut short. The young man was discovered lying on the ground outside the Branch Village apartments in Camden, New Jersey, the victim of a fatal shooting. Camden County Police had responded to a report of a person shot at approximately 12:25 a.m. and found Moody at the scene.
He was swiftly transported to Cooper University Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Leonard Moody was pronounced dead shortly after 1 a.m. The incident left a community in mourning and a family grappling with a sudden and violent loss. The investigation into his death was immediately launched by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department as they began the search for those responsible for this act of gun violence.
Nearly a year later, in December 2015, a significant development was made in the case. An 18-year-old male from Camden was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Moody's death. At the time of the homicide, the alleged perpetrator was 17 years old. Following his arrest, the teenager was taken into custody and held at a juvenile detention facility, bringing a measure of progress in the quest for justice for Leonard Moody and his loved ones.
