On the evening of March 11, 2015, 19-year-old Darryl Shonief Ford, a Black male, was fatally shot in Trenton, New Jersey. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the city's East Ward, marking the second homicide in Trenton in a 24-hour period. Ford was sitting in the driver's seat of a green Hyundai Tucson parked on Ardmore Avenue with two other passengers when the attack took place.
An unidentified assailant, described as a Black man wearing a black mask and a hooded sweatshirt, approached the vehicle and opened fire. As Ford attempted to drive away, he was struck by multiple gunshots. The Hyundai then crashed into a building on Hamilton Avenue. The two passengers in the car were not injured.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene following reports of gunfire. Ford was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating the murder. Authorities have not publicly identified a motive for the shooting.
The suspect remains at large, and no arrests have been made in the case. At the time of his death, Ford had a pending criminal case from the previous year, when he was charged with several weapons offenses, including unlawful possession of a handgun.
