In the fall of 2015, the life of 19-year-old Darnell Smith Jr. was tragically cut short on the streets of Newark, New Jersey. On October 24, 2015, Smith was shot in the 200 block of 6th Street. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead. His death marked the city's 81st homicide of the year.
