In the winter of 2015, on December 20th, the community of Asbury Park, New Jersey, was shaken by a burst of gunfire on Summerfield Avenue. In the driveway of a residence, 24-year-old Jamar Small, a man celebrated as a local football star and a positive role model, was fatally wounded. He was a graduate of Asbury Park High School and had continued his football career at Texas Southern University, earning a degree in business administration before returning to his hometown.
