In the early hours of a Sunday morning, the life of Joshua L. Moore, a 36-year-old Black male from Elizabeth, New Jersey, was cut short by gunfire on the streets of Newark. On August 14, 2016, at approximately 12:10 a.m., reports of shots fired near the intersection of E. Peddie Street and Frelinghuysen Avenue prompted a police response. When they arrived, they found Moore, who was pronounced dead at the scene just over twenty minutes later.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was
launched by the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force. Despite their efforts, no suspects were immediately identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The case remains active and ongoing, with law enforcement continuing to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
In an effort to generate new leads, the Essex County Sheriff's Crimestoppers Program offered a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Authorities have emphasized the importance of community assistance in solving the crime and have urged anyone with information to contact the Essex County Prosecutor's Office tips line. Joshua L. Moore's obituary noted that he passed away suddenly and is survived by his loving family.
