In the early hours of a Monday morning in Newark, New Jersey, tragedy struck 22-year-old Jamid Hardgrove. On May 22, 2023, at approximately 12:10 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting on the 100 block of Riverview Court. Upon arrival, they discovered Hardgrove suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Hardgrove was swiftly transported to University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m.
Another male victim was also found at the scene and taken to the same hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation into the shooting. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Jamid Hardgrove, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
